Hello Kirk,
I have read the website and find it to be of excellent news in the world of boxing in the Houston area.
It was brought to my attention that there was an article posted on your website ( www.houstonboxingscene.com/wartales.htm ) stating that Eugene Hill fought for the Texas Heavyweight title and won it against Robbie McClimans (7-6-2) on October 23.
I knew of Eugene's fight well ahead of the results and I spoke to the Promoter (Chris Henard) before hand to clarify the status of the title since it was posted on your website as an upcoming boxing event that had the title on the line.
As soon as I found out about this error I called Chris Henard to let him know that I manage the current Texas Heavyweight Champion Homero "El Oso" (The Bear) Fonseca (8-2-2) who won the aforementioned title in Kingsville, Texas fighting against Freddy Gatica (3-6) in a title fight sanctioned by the Texas Combative Sports Comission, on September 25th in a promotion by Lone Star Promotions.
I also told Chris Henard that I had called the Texas Combative Sports Commission and spoke to Greg Alvarez to also make them aware of the situation and Greg agreed that Eugene Hill ( 19-1) was not fighting for the title against Robbie McClimans (7-6-2) since Fonseca is the current Champ. Greg did say that Eugene had won the vacant title back in September of 2008 against Roderick Willis ( 14-4-1) but Hill never defended the title within the permited time frame to continue to be the Texas Heavyweight champ.
Boxrec which is the best website in the world when it comes to verifying prize fighters records and previous fights, has also made that mistake (posting that the fight was for the Texas Heavyweight title) and they will be adressed of the error as well so they can make the correction.
Kirk, please make the notation on your website (and clarify the mistake) that Homero "El Oso" Fonseca is the actual Texas Heavyweight Champion and Homero will take on all comers to defend the prestigious Heavyweight State title belt. That includes Eugene Hill if he so desires to enter the squared circle with the pride of Kingsville, Texas.
Sincerely,
Jose Reyes
